| 'The Burford Singers' is a choir of just over 100 singers. It was established as a relatively small choir many years ago but it was in the late 1980s, under its then musical director Brian Etheridge, that it grew to its present size and started performing the major choral works. Brian Etheridge retired as musical director in 2001 and has been succeeded by Brian Kay.
The choir gives three concerts a year, in late November early December, on Palm Sunday and in late June. In recent years the summer concert has every other year been part of the biennial Burford Festival. Most performances are with the Cotswold Chamber Orchestra and take place in the beautiful surroundings of Burford Parish Church. Occasionally the choir sings in other venues.
Owing to limited space in both the rehearsal venue and on the concert platform there is usually a short waiting list in most voice parts for joining the choir, but enquiries regarding membership of the choir are always welcome and should be directed in the first instance to the Membership Secretary, Janet Jeffs, Elmstead, Crawborough, Charlbury, OX7 3TX. |
