Closure of Money for Music Funding Scheme

The grants offered to societies for summer seasons in the year 2005-2006 will be the last to be paid.

The Arts Council are no longer providing funding to Making Music through their regional offices. The funding streams have been replaced by a single grant to MM Central Office that is to be used for the benefit of  all members in England - previously only five of the eleven English regions were funded in this way.

The grant for 2006/07 is little more than the total of the separate grants previously made to Central Office and the five English regions. However, not only does it now have to be spread over the whole membership, but the Arts Council no longer favours the giving of small development grants.

With the help of a consultant, the Regional Chairman and the Board have discussed a number of options for obtaining the best value from the new grant. The consensus is that the funding should be used to strengthen the professional officer support in all the regions.

The South East Regional Committee are now drafting plans to increase this support to members and these will be published shortly.  It is appreciated that those members who have received development grants in recent years may have expected to make successful applications this year. Every effort will be made to help them find alternative funding sources and our Training and Development Officer,  Julian Carlick, (Lainston,Lainston Close, Winchester SO22 5LJ, Tel 01962 866072 or E Mail julian@makingmusic.org.uk) is available  to help and advise about making applications elsewhere, for example to Awards for All and Grants for the Arts.  Pages outlining these last two schemes will be added to this 'Grants' section.
